Lloyd originally wanted to be an cartoon artist. However, on his brother’s PC he had a version of Fruity Loops production software. He would rush home from school to make music, spurring on a career of music production.
A brush with death in hospital gave him the impetus to get his work out there more urgently and not worry about what others think – to remain true to himself became the higher goal.
He has an uncompromising, relentless delivery showing a deep knowledge of the subjects he tackles, from science, philosophy, politics and history, as well as a wit in using popular cultural references.
Lloyd’s first album ‘Dubs Of The Mad Skint And British’ was a self produced double album released independently on his own label ‘Ugstation, the first part being in 2015. It gained a lot of word of mouth praise in the UK underground circuit which led to Lloyd’s art being involved in MOBO UNSUNG, SBTV, BBC 1XTRA and many other established platforms.
The project included songs such as ‘Coming Of Age In Britain’ ‘Golliwog’ and ‘No Signal’ which have since become staples in underground British hip-hop/rap culture but it was – ‘Drugs on Tap’ – a diatribe on the state of the medicine industry, that was used in the soundtrack for Netflix’s series ‘Top Boy’ which gave lloyd the spotlight. This marked Lloyd Luther’s entrance into mainstream UK rap culture, where he has cemented his reputation among the rap scene.
Lloyd Luther’s has since won the high praise from luminaries such as Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher and DJ Semtex.
The next release was ‘Reprogram’ a mixtape that came out during covid to great applause thanking the new fans from ‘TOP BOY’. After a sold old headline show at the end of the covid pandemic Lloyd is now preparing to release his sophomore studio album.
